When no one is watching!
When No One Is Watching
Colossians 3:22; Proverbs 15:3
In 2019, a man in Spain was accused of ordering items from Amazon and returning boxes filled with dirt. He reportedly matched the weight of each product so the returns would appear legitimate, receiving refunds worth nearly $370,000 before the scheme was discovered.
It is tempting to do the wrong thing when we are confident no one will notice.
Paul writes, “Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.”
As I said on Sunday, good workers work hard when it matters, but godly workers work sincerely each day.
I once shared a story about cutting only the parts of the grass people could see. I was working to look good, not to do the job well. We can bring that same attitude to work, doing just enough to impress a coworker, boss, or client. Paul calls us to work with sincerity of heart.
Proverbs 15:3 says, “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.”
We are all tempted to cut corners or shade the truth for our benefit. Even pastors can be tempted to make attendance sound a little better than it was! When our goal is to impress others, appearances can become more important than honesty.
Our work is one way we worship God. Our effort, the quality of what we do, and our attitude all matter. God sees our faithfulness, including the choices no one else notices.
Does your work change when you think no one is watching? Where are you tempted to cut corners because you believe you can get away with it?
